Statehouse Round-Up

We have been incredibly busy this legislative session. Our first-ever Legislative Advocacy Day had great turnout, and working with partners and allies, we scored some legislative wins and experienced some challenging losses:

An Act Concerning School Discipline passed! It updates the annual school climate survey to include questions on the safety of LGBTQ+ students, and creates a new position within CSDE, the Director of School Climate Improvement.

An Act Establishing A Task Force To Study The Effects Of Hate Speech And Bullying On Children passed! We will be working with a group of advocates to fill the task force.

An Act Concerning Peer Run Respite Centers for Persons Experiencing Mental Health Crisis passed as part of SB 1, largely due to the efforts of board member Jordan Fairchild of Keep the Promise Coalition. We go back next year for funding.

Fertility Access: Unfortunately, two fertility access companion bills did not make it out of committee. We will need to go back next session.

An Act Concerning Evictions for Just Cause did not pass through the House. We will coordinate with the Just Cause coalition and determine plans for the next session.
