Connecticut has some of the strongest protections for LGBTQ+ people in the country. But protecting those rights takes more than good laws—it takes legislators who are willing to defend them when they are under attack.
Over the past two weeks, the federal government significantly escalated its efforts to restrict access to gender-affirming care for adolescents. These actions include restricting federal Medicaid and CHIP funding for transgender youth, launching investigations into health care providers, and reaching a deeply troubling agreement with Connecticut Children’s Medical Center (CCMC). These actions build on the disruption caused by similar federal pressure last year, when CCMC and Yale ended or restricted care, displacing approximately 1,000 patients and creating a significant gap in access to gender-affirming care in a state known for its strong LGBTQ+ protections.
We need Connecticut legislators who are ready to fight back.
This year, you have state House and Senate races in your district this November. Reach out to them, letting them know you care about access to healthcare and asking them where they stand.
